Repotted in May 2025. Posting now in October — the plant’s thriving, but I still need to take new photos to show how much it’s filled out since then.

Notes

This Bird of Paradise had been in the smaller terracotta pot for a couple of years and was clearly root-bound. In May, I moved it into a larger, deeper pot with fresh soil and compost. The new container has much better drainage and sits on a (new and much more heavy duty) wheeled base so I can shift it for light or cleaning days.

It adjusted quickly — within a few weeks the leaves straightened, and new growth started pushing up from the center.
Months later and it’s now tall, healthy, and has become one of the anchors of the courtyard.

(New photos soon — the current ones are from repotting day.)

Care

  • Light: morning sun, afternoon shade
  • Water: about once a week, more in summer
  • Feed: slow-release balanced fertilizer every 2–3 months
  • Next step: prune the older lower leaves and document current height
